bear

Black Bear.

Treed year-old black bear on the Louis Lake Trail near the Twisp River, 24 July 2007. I surprised him as he was sleeping on the trail. He scurried up into the tree and paused briefly before scurrying down and skedaddling across a rock field.

My brother had learned from the ranger that this young male black bear had recently struck out on its own but was still sharing the same general area with its mother. I walked half the distance of the trail to Louis Lake and back with camera held at the ready in hopes of getting a shot of one of them. It paid off as I got photos of this bear not only on the way up, but also on the way back down, and its cinnamon-colored mother bear as well. (And I had a big black dog on a leash with me to deal with the entire time.)

on the way up...

Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear.

...and on the way down

Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear. Black Bear.
